Papamoa
Papamoa offers visitors an alternative destination to Mount Maunganui and Tauranga's cosmopolitan buzz. The beaches are less crowded, rural areas frame lifestyle blocks and there is an atmosphere of laid back relaxation.
Away from the café bustle of Mount Maunganui, Papamoa’s coast stretches out to the sky, bordered by wild, protected dunes and more remote beaches. Mount Maunganui can be seen in the distance through a haze of sea spray and endless white sand beach.
Unwind in Papamoa, buy your vegetables from the side of the road, visit the local market at the Plaza Shopping Mall or make the most of restaurants by the sea and inland.
There are several small shopping centres, recreation reserves, sports centres, nearby golf courses and opportunities to tramp, mountain bike, jet boat, while white water rafting and fishing are close by.
Try your hand at blokarting (land-based sailing yachts) or visit the Papamoa Hills Cultural Heritage Park which has stunning views of the area, ancient Maori pa sites, native bush walks and nearby waterfalls.
